Our main session follows the school year: September to early June. There is an annual registration fee of $25 per family.

Our 8 weeks Summer session runs June 17th to August 18th.

Summer Camps

Little Dancer Camp 2 (Summer ‘18): Kids on Broadway for ages 4-6

Sing and dance to the music of Broadway. Learn about what it takes to put on a show: costumes, props, lights, music! Camp will conclude with a performance on Friday at 11:30 AM

Little Dancer Camp 3 (Summer ‘18): Under the Sea for ages 4-6

Cool off and make this summer one to remember! This camp is a week of dancing, singing, crafting, and snacking. Well play pretend as mermaids, voyagers, and under-the-sea explorers. Join us in making a splash and letting our imaginations flow. Camp will conclude with a performance on Friday at 11:30 AM

Dance & Art in Me Camp ‘The Art of Dance’ (Summer ‘18) for ages 5-8

Visual Artists have always been fascinated by Dance and have been eager collaborators with dancers. Campers will learn elements of Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Lyrical dance and will explore the ways Artists have depicted and supported dance through the ages: in clay, paint, collage and fabric. Camp will conclude with a performance on Friday at 11:30 AM

Jr. Musical Theater Camp 2 (Summer ‘18) ages 6-10

Seussical is a musical that brings the stories of Dr. Seuss to life. Thisll be a week of whimsy and magic, singing and dancing, acting and laughter galore. At the end of the camp (Friday at 3:30 PM) well perform for our family and friends.

Intermediate Ballet Technique & Character Workshop (Summer ‘18) for ages 11 and up
August 6th-10th 9:30 AM-12:30 PM $180

Character” ballet is based on stylized theatrical movements and from folk dances of the world. Learn and perform folk dances of other cultures in this fun, technique based class. Camp will conclude with a performance on Friday at 12:00 PM
Dress Code: same as Ballet 3/4 + 1/5 inch character shoes and a knee length character skirt
If taken in conjunction with the Contemporary/Choreography intensive, total cost = $340 (savings of $20)

Contemporary Technique and Choreography Workshop Sum18 for ages 11 and up
August 6th-10th 1-4 PM $180

Contemporary Dance technique class and Choreography Workshop. Students will take 1.5 technique class every day and then will work with choreographic techniques (alone and in groups) to create a dance to perform at the end of the week.Camp will conclude with a performance on Friday at 3:30 PM

Regular Classes

Toddler Toodaloo 

Help your child learn to move his/her body purposefully through space. Creative movement is encouraged through imaginative play and free dance.

(Ages: 1-3 yrs. with a parent/care-giver)

Dance Stories 

Children will learn basic dance vocabulary through teacher and student generated dance stories. The teacher may read a story to the children or talk about a movement concept that will provide inspiration for that day’s dance. This class is intended as an independent dance class although parents will occasionally be welcomed into the dance space at the end of class to watch the students perform.

(Level 1: 3-4 yrs., Level 2: 4-5 yrs.)

Discover Dance! 

Beginning dancers will take this class that covers the basics of all four fundamental dance styles: Ballet, Modern, Jazz and Tap. Learn what the differences are, and the similarities as well as some of the history behind these four movement practices.
(Ages: 5-6 yrs.)

Arts in Motion offers adaptive classes for differently abled students and students with different learning styles.

Ballet 

In ballet classes we focus on placement, alignment, flexibility and musicality through a blend of traditional ballet techniques and contemporary movement theory. Basic ballet concepts, vocabulary and skills are introduced through standard combinations at the barre and in the center. Each level is designed to be taken for 2 years in a row. As students progress through the levels the exercises will increase in length and difficulty and more emphasis will be placed on retention of choreography and performance quality.

(Ballet Level 1: 7-9 yrs., Level 2: 9-11 yrs., Level 3/Pre-pointe: 11-13 yrs., Level 4/Pointe: 12+ yrs. Adult Beginning and Intermediate classes also available.)

Modern Dance

In Modern Dance we use our bodies to express ideas or feelings, much as artists create original pictures. We experiment with the weight of the body and dynamic qualities such as fall and rebound, spiral, and the influences of breath on movement. We explore the concepts of improvisation and composition. Beginning levels will focus on classical modern dance exercises based on the techniques of the original Modern dancers such as Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Doris Humphrey, Merce Cunningham and Erik Hawkins. As students progress through the levels they will be challenged with longer exercises and combinations that will prepare them for learning and performing repertory.

(Modern Level 1: 7-10 yrs., Level 2: 10-13 yrs., Level 3: 13+ yrs. Adult Beginning and Intermediate Modern also available.)

Jazz

Dancers will be exposed to a combination of lyrical and broadway dance styles. Standard jazz combinations will be taught to a mixture of traditional jazz, broadway and popular music. Vocabulary that is specific to jazz dance includes syncopated rhythm, isolations and large jumps and leaps.

 

(Jazz Level 1: 7-10 yrs., Level 2: 10-13 yrs., Level 3: 13+ yrs.)

 

Lyrical

Lyrical combines the techniques of ballet, modern dance and jazz to create dances that express the emotions of a song.  In addition to technical warm up exercises dancers will explore improvisation, elements of composition and will learn standard leaps and turns. Dancers will be exposed to a combination of lyrical and broadway dance styles. Standard jazz combinations will be taught to a mixture of traditional jazz, broadway and popular music. Vocabulary that is specific to jazz dance includes syncopated rhythm, isolations and large jumps and leaps.

Tap

Rhythm Tap technique taught with a Broadway flair!

(Tap Level 1: 7-10 yrs., Level 2: 10-13 yrs., Level 3: 13+ yrs.) 

 

Hip-Hop

This class will expose the student to all of the elements of this Urban dance style including breaking, robotics and pop and lock. Class will focus on improvisational techniques.

(Hip Hop Level 1: 7-10 yrs., Level 2: 10-13 yrs., Level 3: 13+ yrs. Private lessons are also available.)

Musical Theater

Students will have weekly voice and dance lessons. They will learn songs from classic Musical Theater shows and will learn elements of ballet and jazz and character development through voice and movement. Students who are ready will be given the opportunity for solos.

 

(Musical Theater Level 1/Beginners: 7-11 yrs., Level 2/Intermediate: 11-18 yrs.)

 

Student Dance Company

Students ages 10 and up in level 2 or higher classes who are ready for more performance opportunities are invited to take weekly repertory classes with faculty and other local choreographers to create dance pieces to be presented in community performances.

 

Ballroom (Teens and Adults) 

Basic Ballroom styles (waltz, fox trot, swing, rhumba, merengue, cha cha, tango) taught in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Couples are taught to communicate through the leading and following and improvise within the fundamental structure of the dances. Group classes or private lessons available.
