History

Scott A. Read and Amanda Stanger-Read opened Arts in Motion in January 2001 with 35 students, 2 dance studios and a class curriculum developed by Amanda Stanger-Read including Toddler Toodaloo and Beginning Dance. In 2002 we started the Student Dance Company - free for all interested students (ages 6 and up) which meets for 2 hours almost every Sunday and performs throughtout the Ann Arbor area. In the Fall of 2008 we doubled our space to include a third dance studio and 3 professionally tuned music rooms for private lessons. Currently the studio teaches over 300 students and employs 30 teachers:15 dance and 15 music.

Teaching Philosophy

At Arts in Motion we treat all students with respect. We believe that dance and music should be accessible to all ages and ability levels. Our teachers give 100% to their students and expect 100% back from their students. Teachers give immediate and specific feedback, not just generalized comments. Our small class size allows for personalized instruction for all students. We encourage teamwork and cooperation. In both our private music lessons and our group dance classes our goal is to teach a love of the arts with an understanding of the theory and history behind the art form. We prepare students in both disciplines to perform with confidence.
