Leslie Harrison

Leslie had discovered a passion for dance and performing at a very young age. She was enrolled in dance lessons at the age of 4 and enjoyed learning tap, ballet and jazz. Her love of performing took her through high school and college. She studied musical theater at Eastern Michigan University. She also studied Ballroom dance and worked as an instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Kalamazoo MI.

Unfortunately she was diagnosed with a rare neuromuscular disorder at the age of 19 that eventually forced her to put her dreams of dancing and acting on hold. Not knowing whether she’d be able to perform again was devastating. After 15 years of battling the disease, she never gave up the idea of pursuing her passion again. She was fortunate enough to go into remission but it was going to take a lot of hard work to regain strength to actually dance again.

After some disappointing struggles, her artistic nature took her into art and jewelry design and launched a jewelry design company in 1995. At the same time, she worked toward gaining strength and began studying health and fitness.

As her health continued to improve, she had the opportunity to work for Curves Fitness Club in Dexter MI. It helped her tremendously in her better health journey. After a few years, she bought the fitness franchise.

Dancing was always on the back of her mind and in 2010 Zumba Fitness partnered with Curves creating the Zumba in the Circuit format and fell in love with it. She became a licensed instructor in 2011. With her Latin Ballroom background, Zumba just came naturally.

She wants to share at Arts in Motion the great benefits of Zumba Fitness, dancing to Latin rhythms and getting in shape without even realizing it.
