Arts in Motion Dance Studio came into being because Amanda and Scott had a vision. A vision of dance classes in which students are respected. Where families would feel comfortable. Where the learning process is the primary focus, not the end performance. Where teachers and students are encouraged to be creative. Where people learn to DANCE not just to do steps. With this vision in mind, they opened Arts in Motion in January 2001 35 students in 6 dance classes, 2 dance studios, and a handful of teachers who were dedicated to the same ideals. By 2008, the studio had expanded to include 15 dance teachers and almost 300 students in 50 classes per week. In the Spring of 2013 Arts in Motion teamed up with Wild Swan Theater to share a space on the west side of Ann Arbor. Now they offer dance classes for all ages (toddlers – adults) and levels in Ballet, Pointe, Modern, Jazz, Lyrical/Contemporary, Tap, Hip Hop, and Ballroom. Arts in Motion is an active member the community regularly offering free performances at events, senior living communities and schools. They are members of the Arts Alliance, the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber, the Michigan Dance Council and the National Dance Education Organization.

Teaching Philosophy

At Arts in Motion Dance Studio we treat all students with respect. We believe that dance classes should be accessible to all ages and ability levels. Our teachers give 100% to their students and expect 100% back from their students. Teachers give immediate and specific feedback, not just generalized comments. Our small class size allows for personalized instruction for all students. We encourage teamwork and cooperation. In our group dance classes our goal is to teach a love of the art of dance with an understanding of the theory and history behind it. We prepare students to explore their creativity and to perform with confidence. Arts in Motion is also extending this philosophy to the corporate environment with a team bonding workshop called, Move Through It! If you are looking for an activity to inspire your team to reach its fullest potential, Move Through It! is the workshop you’ve been waiting for.

The Ballettschule Feibicke of Berlin, Germany, visits Ann Arbor every other year as part of the Blue Lake International Exchange Program. Members of the dance company stay in private homes while visiting Ann Arbor. During their stay in Ann Arbor Ballettschule Feibicke participates in Master classes at Arts in Motion Dance Studio and presents a dance concert to the public on their final day. The concert is FREE to the public. The company consists of 23-30 dancers between the ages of 15-25 and is directed by Monika Feibicke and her daughter Christiane Feibicke.
